Outlook 2007 unable to contact server using "Out of Office", with Exchange 2007
Hi all, I've got a problem with Outlook 2007, when setting Out of Office internally (on Lan) some users randomly get "cannot connect to server" after a long delay. But log the user into OWA and OOF can be set without problem - this makes me think Outlook connection issue but checking the Outlook icon for status and all okay. Any ideas?

Hi, Running Test Email AutoConfiguration from the Outlook client to check if the Autodiscover function is working properly. 1. While Outlook 2007 is running, hold down the CTRL key, right-click the Outlook icon in the notification area, and then select Test E-mail AutoConfiguration. Verify that the correct e-mail address is in the box next to E-mail Address. Clear the check boxes next to Use Guessmart and Secure Guessmart Authentication. On the Test E-mail AutoConfiguration page, verify that the check box next to Use AutoDiscover is selected, and then click the Test button. You can post the result for further help. Besides, if you have .NET Framework 3.5 with SP1 or the .NET Framework 2.0 with SP2 installed on your Exchange Server, then I recommend you to apply the following hotfix: Outlook 2007 crashes or you cannot access OOF settings after you install a package that contains the .NET Framework 3.5 with SP1 and the .NET Framework 2.0 with SP2 on an Exchange 2007 Client Access server or on an Exchange 2010 Client Access server http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958934/EN-US

Hi everyone, thanks for the response. I've run the tests before but to be honest I didn't understand the implications as I thought the autodiscover was for outside connections into the network/Exchange? The errors are as follows: Autodiscover to https://exch-hub.DOMAINNAME/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml starting Rec'd certificate error. Failing with cert error (Same for the other hub server we have, cert error) Srv record lookup for MXDOMAINNAME starting Srv record lookup for MXDOMAINNAME failed (0x8004010F) Where does the srv lookup need to point to, ie is it the hub servers?

AutoD should point to CAS. SRV lookup need to point to your CAS where u have enabled Outlook Anywhere/or u using as an internet facing CAS. What cert error did u get? Is your FQDN "exch-hub.DOMAINNAME" added to your SSL cert as SAN? Regards, Laeeq Qazi|Team Lead(Exchange + Sharepoint + BES + DynamicsCRM) www.HostingController.com

Hmm, plot thickens, my status is now as follows: The Discovery virtual directory now works for testing of HTTP and HTTPs (I get the xml response window). I can browse the https://hub-cas-servername.domain.local/autodiscover url by using firefox with no proxy (I get a login prompt) from my laptop but not from IE using the new proxy and yet the domain address is set as allowed internal. I've found the issue has spread to downloading the GAL from a client as well, both seem to relate to the autodiscover service. I've added DNS entries for both Hub/CAS servers as "autodiscover.smtpdomain.ac.uk" but that hasn't fixed the OOF or the GAL download from Outlook. The errors when testing outlook connectivity are now different though, as follows: Autodiscover https://1sthubserver.domain.local/autodiscover failing with cert error. Same for 2ndhubserver local autodiscover for stmpdomain.ac.uk starting and failed (0x8004010F) Redirect check to http://autodiscover.smtpdomain.ac.uk/autodiscover started and failed (0x8004005). Any ideas?

Excellent, fixed it. Just added A host records for "autodiscover.smtpdomain.ac.uk" and that seems to of worked for most Outlook clients. Might also do the srv records yet but will see what happens over the next week or so. Outlook connection tests confirm success now which they never did before. Thanks for all your help. Swiss
